Ohio State QB Justin Fields Declares For 2021 NFL Draft; Bound To Play For Jets?

Another big name college quarterback has declared for the NFL Draft. Ohio State’s Justin Fields is the latest to enter the annual event.

The Buckeyes quarterback put out a tweet Monday morning with a caption stating “Next Chapter,” followed by a few paragraphs explaining his decision.

“My path to The Ohio State University was not a direct one, but I could not have asked for a better final destination,” Fields said.

Fields was impressive in his two seasons with the Buckeyes, throwing for 5,701 yards with 67 touchdowns, nine picks, 1,133 yards rushing and 19 rushing touchdowns. He is expected to be a top five pick in the 2021 draft.

With the Jacksonville Jaguars still slated to be taking Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick, some mocks drafts have Fields going as high as No. 2 to the New York Jets, who might be looking to move on from Sam Darnold.

Fields had a huge 2019 season, becoming the first Big Ten player to have 40 passing scores and 10 rushing scores in a season.

He was the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year in 2019, throwing a total of 41 touchdowns and just three interceptions.

Fields hopes to have more success than fellow Buckeye quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who was a first-round pick of Washington two years ago. With a week left in the 2020 season, Haskins was released by the team.
