Official Statement on Taco Bell Dropping Mexican Pizza

Videos by OutKick

Taco Bell announced on Thursday that it was removing the Mexican Pizza and shredded chicken items from their menu. Here is my official statement on the matter:

Nothing Taco Bell does with their menu matters as long as they don’t ever ever ever ever get rid of the Cheesy Gordita Crunch. Any order at Taco Bell that does not include the Cheesy Gordita Crunch is suboptimal, as this is far and away the most delicious item on their menu. While I have slight disappointment that I will no longer be able to supplement the Cheesy Gordita Crunch with a shredded chicken burrito, I will survive.

More on background: The Mexican Pizza was never really high on my priorities list, but I get why other people are sad about its loss. The good news is that in the long run this could be a minor setback for a major comeback. We’ve seen populist demand bring back beloved fast food items in the past. Wendy’s brought back their spicy chicken nuggets after years of depriving their customers. Taco Bell yielded to calls to bring back the Crunchwrap Supreme.

There are Taco Bell fans who still miss the chili cheese burrito; I expect that loss will continue to remain greater than the Mexican Pizza.

  1. For anyone who thinks boycotts don’t work, I boycotted Taco Bell for 7 years, going only when the CGC was a LTO. Then, they brought the CGC back as a regular menu item, and it remains today as a menu staple, the perfect matrimony of crispy and gooey.

  2. Ryan, allow me to retort. You should be against Taco Bell removing the Mexican Pizza (one of my favorite items) for the same reason you should be against government discrimination against specific groups such as race minorities, religions, political groups etc. because if the government is doing to one group unchecked, it will eventually end up at your doorstep. Some day, maybe not today, maybe not next year, you too will be in a group that is not favored by some oligarchy and will be unfairly treated. Do not sit by and allow Taco Bell to ravage our beloved menu. Do it for people like me that are currently being disenfranchised, and for people like you that will eventually be disenfranchised by an out of control Taco Bell management. This aggression cannot stand, man…

  3. I was a “nacho cheese chalupa” enthusiast for years, they have now taken it off the menu, but it can still be had as a designer upgrade chalupa. I ordered 3 “nacho cheese chalupas” about 2 years ago, and they rather diabolically typed into the confirm your order window “3 Chalupa supremes, minus sour cream, add nacho cheese”. It ended up costing me $12 by the time they got done upgrading me. Last trip to taco bell for me, I prefer to make my own soft tacos at home with ground chicken, lettuce, tomato, finely shredded cheddar, taco sauce and the secret ingredient a drizzle of Gordo’s cheese dip.
