Now Nickelback Is Covering “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”

A few weeks ago, Korn covered “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by Charlie Daniels Band. It was a surprising cover, and also pretty good. Now Nickelback has taken their shot at it:

I get that it’s fashionable online to rip Nickelback and I’m sure there are times I have partaken, but for some reason a lot of their hits have grown on me over the years. When “How You Remind Me”, “Rock Star”, and “Someday I’ll Be Gone” come on Pop2k on SiriusXM, I keep it there and bop along.

With all that being said, I don’t love this cover. I can’t really explain why, but the solo triggers me, almost like being at the dentist while the polishing tool is doing its necessary but uncomfortable work.

What are your thoughts here? And who did this better, Nickelback or Korn?

PS – last time we did this several commenters told me to check out Primus’s cover of this song, so here that is in case you also had not heard it yet:
