North Carolina Hospital Denies Kidney Transplant To Unvaccinated Man

A Baptist hospital in North Carolina hospital has decided to play the role of God, essentially picking and choosing who lives and who dies. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC is refusing to perform a kidney transplant on a man in need because he’s not vaccinated.

“Without (a transplant), there’s no telling how much longer I’ll be here,” Chad Carswell told WSOC-TV. “I have to have a kidney to prolong my life.”

And in order to receive a transplant, he’ll also have to receive a COVID vaccine, something that goes against his beliefs.

“I was born free. I will die free. I’m not changing my mind,” Carswell said.

Carswell is a double amputee who’s undergone a number of surgeries throughout his life. He currently undergoes dialysis three times a week for his failing kidney, which he says is operating at only 4%. The dialysis is merely a temporary fix and a transplant is a must.

His hospital, however, is more concerned with Carswell’s jab than his life, releasing the following statement to WSOC-TV: “Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist’s policy follows the current standard of care in the United States, which is to vaccinate all patients on waiting lists or being evaluated for transplant.

“We understand that some patients may not wish to be vaccinated. In this case, patients can opt to be evaluated at another transplant center.”

Doctors and nurses — who likely have never reconsidered their own views — have attempted to change Carswell’s mind, but he remains committed to his anti-vax stance.

“That’s when I politely told (the doctor) there’s nothing to talk about,” Carswell said. “It wasn’t up for debate, I wasn’t getting it. And he told me, ‘You know you’ll die if you don’t get it.’ And I told him I’m willing to die.”

Only God, or in this case, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, knows why.
