No. 10 Notre Dame Routs Navy To Win Fourth Consecutive Game

Videos by OutKick

The Navy triple option offense was no match for No. 10 Notre Dame on Saturday in South Bend, as the Fighting Irish (8-1) defeated the Midshipmen (2-7, 2-4 AAC) 34-6 to win their fourth consecutive game.

Navy quarterbacks Tai Lavatai and Xavier Arline didn’t bother testing the Notre Dame secondary, attempting just three passes during the game. Navy ran the ball 55 times but could only muster up 3.0 yards per carry.

The Notre Dame offense, meanwhile, was efficient under quarterback Jack Coan. The Wisconsin graduate transfer had his finest day under center since Week 1 against Florida State. Coan completed 23-of-29 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown. Coan’s biggest play of the day came with 50 seconds remaining in the first half.

Clinging to a 10-3 lead, Coan zipped one down the left sideline to receiver Kevin Austin Jr., who took it 70 yards for the score to give Notre Dame a 17-3 lead heading into halftime.

Austin Jr. had a career high 139 yards on six receptions. Elsewhere, the Notre Dame offense ran on the legs of running back Kyren Williams. Williams ran for 95 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns, coming up just short of his third consecutive 100-yard day. Williams’ 20-yard scamper for a score in the fourth quarter iced the game for the Fighting Irish.

Next up for Notre Dame is a visit to Charlottesville to take on Virginia (6-3, 4-2 ACC), as they look to finish the season with one loss in hopes of keeping their College Football Playoff hopes alive.
