Nickelodeon To Run Super Bowl Pregame Show For Kids (And Adults Too)

With the way things are going for the Houston Texans, maybe they'll end up trading Deshaun Watson for SpongeBob SquarePants. If nothing else, SquarePants will be back involved in the NFL this weekend for the league's biggest game.

That's because Nickelodeon will air a Super Bowl LV pregame show before the Tampa Bay Buccaneers tangle with the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Actually, the official name is the "Nickelodeon Super Duper Super Bowl Pregame Spectacular." The half-hour program will be hosted by Nickelodeon stars Gabrielle Nevaeh Green and Lex Lumpkin and first air at 8 p.m. EST/PST. It will then air multiple times over the weekend leading into Sunday's 6:30 p.m. EST kickoff.

This is the network's second pairing with the NFL. The first came during the New Orleans Saints-Chicago Bears game last month, when the NFC playoff matchup was simulcast on CBS and Nickelodeon. It turned out to be Nickelodeon's most-watched broadcast in four years.

“We are thrilled to continue our collaboration with Nickelodeon and build off the success and overwhelming positive response from the production of the NFL Wild Card Game on Nickelodeon,” said Sean McManus, chairman, CBS Sports. “The ‘Nick-ified’ elements in our pregame and halftime programming, along with the second screen digital and social highlights, will be the perfect complement to CBS Sports’ first-class broadcast of Super Bowl LV, allowing us to reach an even wider audience on Super Bowl Sunday across a variety of platforms as we continue to showcase the power of the ViacomCBS family.”

SpongeBob? At the Super Bowl? As the song goes, are you ready, kids?
