Nick Chubb Steps Out of Bounds on Long Run, Costing Browns Cover

Videos by OutKick

Nick Chubb bursted for a 59-yard run late in the Browns-Texans game. With the Browns leading 10-7, he stepped out of bounds at the 1-yard line with 58 seconds remaining instead of scoring. The Browns were favored by between 3.5 and 4.5 points depending on where you got the line, and so this decision cost Cleveland bettors the cover:

On one hand this was the right football decision by Chubb given that the Browns could kneel it to ice the game. On the other hand, if you bet on the Browns or have Chubb in a contested fantasy matchup this one’s going to hurt.

  1. I have Chubb in fantasy, so I am a little biassed. Strategically speaking, they were up by 3. Score the TD, and you go up 10, assuming you make the PAT. Being up two possessions is better than being up 1 possession. This not scoring to run out the clock thing is getting ridiculous.
