What The Pec? Big Ben Injured, May Be Limited
Ben Roethlisberger, who's injured more frequently than the cast of Jackass, is once again reaching for the Tylenol. The Steelers quarterback left Sunday's game in Las Vegas with more than just a loss, he also suffered a left pectoral injury. Ben's painful pec could be partially to blame for his shaky start to the season, and could limit the signal caller moving forward.
Ben's injury woes could be blamed on a Raiders defense that hit Roethlisberger early and often. "I don't know specifically when Ben got injured in game," said Steelers coach Mike Tomlin. "I don't know that he does. You know, sometimes just in the midst of competition, adrenaline and so forth, you just don't know. Sometimes things just come up after."
Roethlisberger attempted 40 passes Sunday, providing Las Vegas with plenty of opportunities to tee off. "He took too many hits," said Tomlin. "We can run the ball better. We can get the ball out of his hand quicker. We can stay on schedule and not get behind the sticks and get in situations where the line of the game is so far that it enhances the rush."
Though the pectoral injury shouldn't keep him out of the lineup for Sunday's game with Cincinnati, the injury could limit his practice reps. “That could affect him in a preparation standpoint," added Tomlin.
Behind Roethlisberger on the depth chart are Mason Rudolph and former Washington first-round bust, Dwayne Haskins, who's been inactive for each of Pittsburgh's first two games. Even with questions at the quarterback position, FanDuel Sportsbook has the Steelers as four point home favorites for Sunday's divisional matchup with the Begnals.
