Lions Make GM Candidates Known, With Rick Smith Perhaps In Lead

There are no secrets when it comes to the Detroit Lions' search for a new general manager. In fact, the Lions can't wait to tell you who is in the running.

On Wednesday, the team announced that it has interviewed former Houston Texans GM Rick Smith, former Kansas City Chiefs GM Scott Pioli and former Atlanta Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff for the vacancy.

Smith has been reported as a candidate for several openings, though it is believed he is the frontrunner for the Lions' job. Pioli and Dimitroff sort of came out of nowhere, but if you get an interview, you theoretically have a chance.

Oh, by the way, the Lions also need a head coach. They parted ways with both former GM Bob Quinn and coach Matt Patricia after an embarrassing loss on Thanksgiving.

Whoever takes the job will get the right to lead a franchise that hasn't won a playoff game since 1991. So whoever that man is will become a legend if he can lead the team to even a modicum of success.
