Cam Time In Washington? Starting QB Fitzpatrick Expected To Miss Several Weeks

Washington Football Team quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick suffered a hip subluxation and is on the injured reserve list, meaning he's unavailable for at least three weeks.

Yahoo Sports reports he was injured on a hit from Los Angeles Chargers pass rusher Uchenna Nwosu, who planted Fitzpatrick into the turf with the hip hitting hard. He completed 3-of-6 passes for 13 yards before exiting.

Taylor Heinicke, who played well in Washington's playoff loss to the eventual champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season, relieved Fitzpatrick and connected on 11-of-15 throws for 122 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Bolts.

He will start going forward, with Kyle Allen, who also played for Washington head coach Ron Rivera in Carolina, serving as the backup. Rivera said Monday the team doesn't currently have plans to add any more quarterbacks to the roster.

Yahoo Sports reports the team is adding Kyle Shurmur, son of Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, to round out the depth chart in a move corresponding to Fitzpatrick's stint on IR. Kyle Shurmur has spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals but has not played in a regular season game. He was undrafted out of Vanderbilt in 2019.

Washington hosts the New York Giants on Thursday night, then travels to Buffalo and Atlanta the following two weeks.
