Bills Propose Nifty New, Smaller Stadium

A trip to the AFC Championship Game can come with a cost, mostly to fans and the city. But it may be time for the Buffalo Bills to start thinking about a new stadium.

And that's seemingly what they're doing, as The Associated Press reported the franchise has proposed a new $1.4 billion stadium, which would include nearly 60,000 seats and 60 of those luxury suites thingies that everyone loves.

"The proposed capacity is about 12,000 seats less than the Bills’ current facility, now called Highmark Stadium, which was built in 1973," the AP wrote. "The new venue would not include a roof, but it would be designed so that a majority of the seats would be protected from the elements, the person said."

The new venue would ideally be ready in time for the 2027 season.

All things considered, $1.4 billion isn't so bad. After all, the Bills were originally thinking about a larger stadium that would cost $1.6 billion, per the AP. But the organization eventually decided to shrink the project a bit.

Either way, again, it will come at a price, and it's the townspeople who will have to ante up -- at least a little.

"The expectation is the state and county will be asked to cover more than 50% of the project, raising concerns about the potential for taxpayer funding," the AP wrote.

The Bills finished 13-3 last season, riding the arm of quarterback Josh Allen to win the AFC East and advance all the way to the conference title game, before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs.
