Are you ready for some football?
How about an 18-game schedule in the NFL?
It sounds like in the not so distant future, there is going to be just that, as NBC’s Peter King wrote in his “Football Morning in America” that the growing trend is that the league is eventually going to bite the bullet and go to 18 games a season.
King says that the change to 18 games could come as soon as 2025 or 2026.
This season will be the first in league history that there will be 17 games on the schedule. The league added a game at the very end of the season.
The move to 18 games isn’t going to sit well with players. The move to 17 games for the 2021 season is already making players unhappy, but they are going to have to deal with it.
One thing many have yet to talk about is how coaches and their staff are going to deal with the new situation.
Preseason games will continue to be thrown out while the more ‘important’ regular season games will be put in place. For now, it’s 17 games, but get ready for that all to change again in a few years.

There will be more games and shorter careers. This works out great for owners. 18 regular season games plus playoffs? That’s a LOT of physical abuse on your body. It will start becoming a feat for players to simply make it through a regular season healthy.
We will have players ‘resting’ more and more often.
And quite frankly it will be the owners to blame. Not the players. There is only so much wear and tear a body can take. I hate this move
September has practically become preseason for most teams. Think of all the stat leaders and premature MVP talk that happens the first part of the season…by January, things look completely different. You can’t win the Super Bowl with a great first month, but you can lose it with a bad one.
As long as the playoffs don’t extend, I’m OK. I want less than half the league making the playoffs.
I’m pro-capitalist (of course). But at some point these owners gotta chill out!! There are making Zillions already. The players will get even more injured. By the time the postseason comes about we will have Matt Barkley throwing it to Cole Beasley instead of Josh Allen to Stefan Diggs
