'Professor Lockdown' Resigns After Visits from Married Lover

Love can turn you into many things. A hypocrite is one of them. Example: Neil Ferguson.

The British professor, epidemiologist, and lockdown advocate resigned on Tuesday from his government role after violating lockdown rules, per The Daily Telegraph. Ferguson, whose advice led to Prime Minister Boris Johnson imposing a nationwide lockdown, allowed his married lover Antonia Staats to travel across London to visit him at his home at least twice.

"Professor Lockdown,” as Ferguson is known as, had been advising everyone to adhere to strict guidelines which included, wait for it, banning couples from seeing each other if they didn’t live together.

Yep.

Staats admitted to her friends that her husband was experiencing symptoms of the coronavirus during this time. It's said to be known Staats and her husband are in an "open relationship." They have two children.

“I accept I made an error of judgment and took the wrong course of action,” Ferguson told The Telegraph. “I have therefore stepped back from my involvement in SAGE . I deeply regret any undermining of the clear messages around the continued need for social distancing to control this devastating epidemic. The government guidance is unequivocal, and is there to protect all of us.”

Obviously, a lot going on here. It always sucks when a good thing goes wrong. Sometimes fun can cost you your job. Ferguson probably thought this sly setup was invincible. That it would be even easier to pull off with the country locked down.

Unless, maybe, he considers all of this worth it? After all, this hiccup doesn't mean Ferguson and Staats can no longer meet up. He does come across as an opportunist...
