Michigan 5-Star QB Signee Shows Off Impressive, Completely Unnecessary Throws In Workout Videos
Jim Harbaugh landed himself a talented five-star quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class. J.J. McCarthy of IMG Academy was rated the nation's No. 24 overall prospect and No. 4 quarterback, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Based on a few workout videos recently released, I guess I can see why he was viewed favorably.
McCarthy performed multiple jump passes during those workout videos, including one where he does a 360 in mid-air while slinging a semi-accurate pass to his receiver -- though technically, the pass was out of bounds. Check it out.
Now, that second video offers some key context. Apparently, the quarterback prodigy was having some fun for the young campers in attendance at the Rise and Fire Camp, which hosts events in Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas.
Though they are fun videos, he probably won't attempt these stunts in a live game -- or at least I hope he won't. Because let me tell you what will happen if he does: 1) he's going to throw an interception 2) Michigan is probably going to lose and 3) Harbaugh is probably going to get fired.
Look, Sideline Khakis is already feeling his seat warm up. He can't afford to have McCarthy out there acting like Radon Randell from Blue Mountain State. Would it be fun for us? Absolutely, I'm all for McCarthy -- or anyone else, to be honest -- trying this in a live game. Who doesn't love chaos?
But for now, I'll remained impressed because I do believe McCarthy just did it for the young campers there. It's all in good fun.
