Lakers Player Robbed At Gunpoint In $150K Heist

Los Angeles Lakers gunner Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was recently a victim of a pricey at-home robbery. Just over a week ago, the 28-year-old Laker guard was robbed at gunpoint outside of his LA area home, per TMZ. The heist cost Caldwell-Pope around $150k, but he walked away unharmed.

The L.A. incident occurred in the wee hours of the morning on June 17th . TMZ reported that Caldwell-Pope, who’s been with the Lakers since 2017, and a group of friends were hanging out in his driveway when three men (yet to be identified) pulled up to the house, then exited their car brandishing guns. Without a struggle, KCP and friends were then taken for around $150k in cash, jewelry, a Rolex and an iPhone. No one was injured during the robbery.

Though the $150k is a tough pill for anyone to swallow, KCP’s Lakers contract should make the loss go down a bit easier. In 2020 Caldwell-Pope resigned with Los Angeles for $39 million over three years. Not bad coin for a player who contributed just under ten points and three rebounds for the defending champion Lakers.

Plenty of questions surround the robbery, including the identity of the three men who committed the crime. Maybe the most-pressing question is, why anyone would steal KCP’s phone?  Aside from enabling themselves to be tracked, the phone is likely passcode protected and of little use. If they’re seeking unflattering locker room pics of LeBron weeping into his merlot following LA’s first-round playoff exit, they’re likely out of luck.
