NASCAR Drivers Getting In Some Run At Rolex 24

It's not a NASCAR race, but given the lineup, the 59th running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona may as well be.

For starters, seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson and defending Cup Series champion Chase Elliott will both take part in the 24-hour-long race, which starts Saturday afternoon. Other participating NASCAR names you likely know include Austin Dillon, Cody Ware and AJ Allmendinger.

Johnson, who retired from full-time racing at the end of the 2020 season, will be one of four drivers sharing the No. 48 Action Express Cadillac DPi. Elliott will be in Action Express’ No. 31 Cadillac.

"I think it’s going to be challenging," Elliott told reporters. "I think it’s going to take some time to learn. When practice sessions are split up among four drivers, you are not in the car that much. I’m going to lean on those guys as much as I can because it’s going to be a lot to take in."

NASCAR's first race of the season is scheduled for Tuesday at Daytona International Speedway. But Saturday, it may feel like the season has already begun.
