NASCAR Allowing Some Fans At Races in June

NASCAR announced today that 5,000 fans will be allowed to attend the Geico 500 race at Talladega Superspeedway on June 21st. This limited number will be restricted to people who previously purchased tickets to this race, and live within 150 miles of the venue in Alabama. With this small amount of fans, social distancing can be adhered to, and the ticketing restriction will limit travel.

There will also be 1,000 service members in attendance at the Dixie Vodka 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on June 14th.

This is significant because these will be the first sporting events of this caliber to allow any fans, and represents a dipping of toes in the water for us to see what holding events with limited fans will look like.

This could very well be a stepping stone to more fans at live sporting events, as Florida governor Ron DeSantis and Texas governor Greg Abbott have both been in favor of the return of spectators.
