Juan Soto Is The Best Hitter In The World

Juan Soto got off to a slow start this season, but ever since he has been participating in a home run derby -- he's been Barry Bonds. No, seriously. He's hitting .343 with a .509 on-base percentage to go along with a slugging percentage of .628, according to my good friend and baseball Twitter savant Ryan Spaeder.

What's most impressive is that a 22-year-old Soto throws up Bonds numbers with no lineup protection the way Barry Bonds had with Hall of Fame candidate Jeff Kent. We can't forget the Nationals dealt perennial All-Star shortstop Trea Turner to the Dodgers and slugger Kyle Schwarber to the Red Sox, so it's not like Juan Soto sees pitches to hit these days. However, when he does, he mashes and continues to prove why he's the best bat in the game.

Just 78 strikeouts in his 509 plate appearances on the year making for a strikeout 15 percent of his trips to the dish. THAT is entertainment fans come to see. A player who takes pride in putting the ball in play, and he's doing it in year four of his young career, which we rarely see.

It's hard watching the Nationals knowing they just punted on the next year or so at the deadline, but give Juan Soto a look. He's well worth your time.
