Yesterday might have been a great day if you followed some of the picks, or might have been rough. We won the Mariners play, we lost the Orioles team total, and the Dodgers didn’t cover the run line bet. However, I recommended a Dodgers moneyline/under 8.5 and that did hit. Onto some afternoon Sunday games.

Astros vs. Angels

The Astros are the best team against left-handed pitching in Major League Baseball. Today they face a lefty in Reid Detmers who has been absolutely rocked in the start of his career. Detmers has given up 11 earned runs in 9.1 innings. The Astros are also performing well lately with four consecutive victories. I am fully expecting another victory today. The ‘stros did score eight runs yesterday but aside from that, they are getting four or five runs a game. There isn’t much more to say for this pick – play the Astros team total over 5 at -122.

Padres vs. Diamondbacks

Things are not going well for the Friars right now. Losers of four of their last five games, and no-hit by a guy in his first career start last night, the Padres need to rebound in a big way. Today they close out a series against the Diamondbacks and bring Craig Stammen, a relief pitcher, in to try and stop the bleeding. Stammen has seen Diamondbacks hitters 65 times and given up 16 hits to them, including four home runs. So far, the Diamondbacks appear to have his number this season too. In five innings against them, he has given up five earned runs. Zac Gallen takes the hill for the Diamondbacks and he brings a 4.87 ERA to the game. At home, he has been slightly better with only a 4.18 ERA. The Padres saw him earlier in the season and got two runs off of him in his 4.2 innings pitched. Play the over 9 runs in this one at -118.

Dodgers vs. Mets

Max Scherzer is back on the mound for the Dodgers today and he looks to keep the not-so-mighty Mets at bay. Scherzer, having pitched for the Nationals all those years, is very familiar with the Mets and has held them to a batting average under .200. Carlos Carrasco pitches for the Mets and he has given up seven runs in 9.1 innings with them. The few people who have seen Carrasco on the Dodgers team have not had much success against him. I am playing this as a moneyline and under parlay at +190. I like the run line parlay too, but prefer the moneyline offer today. I will also throw a super small play on Michael Conforto to hit a home run at +450 today. He’s 12 for 35 against Scherzer with four homers in his career.
