A lot of matchups today in the Majors, but we are going to focus on three-night games so there is plenty of time for you to get your picks in.
Orioles vs. Angels
Alex Cobb pitches for the Angles tonight against his former teammates in the Orioles. Cobb is not adept at missing many bats, but he has a very respectable 2.83 home ERA in five starts. Jorge Lopez, the Orioles starter, has been very willing to surrender runs to opponents with a 6.23 ERA on the road. In three of his last five games, he has given up five runs in less than five innings of work. As of right now, it looks like the wind is blowing out to center. I’m going to play the over 9.5.
Giants vs. Diamondbacks
If betting didn’t exist, this game would have literally no interest to me whatsoever. But, even when there is a crap game, you can still find an angle or value that is worth pursuing. Both pitchers are nothing exciting, and while the Giants have the best record in baseball, the Diamondbacks have won nine games since May 1st. The stat I’m looking at here is Sammy Long, Giants starter, having a .417 average against him from Diamondbacks hitters. Jake Faria has not faced the Giants before so no telling how this will go, but if it is like the rest of their skid, it will probably go poorly. I’m going to play the over 9.5 in this game.
Cardinals vs. Rockies
CJ Cron is 2 for 2 with two home runs against Cardinals starter, Wade LeBlanc. Will he get another one tonight? He is +260 to hit one. I don’t particularly see that happening, but if you want to put a sprinkle on it for fun, go ahead. The real story of this game is will Kyle Freeland who has given up one earned run in his last two starts show up, or will Kyle Freeland who has an ERA that’s north of 6 how up? The Rockies should be able to hit LeBlanc, they are batting .267 against lefties and are very good at home. I say Freeland does enough to keep them in the game. Play the Rockies at -116.
