We return to MLB with an extremely short slate today. Just five games to consider on today’s slate. We only have two plays and a just for fun parlay.

White Sox vs. Tigers

You may not be aware of it, but the Tigers have the best record in the division since the All-Star break. The White Sox are not even second, they’ve fallen behind the Royals. Part of that drop is due to the pitching staff not being as dominant as they were in the first half. Another part is, the White Sox have already clinched their division and it was inevitable, so the urgency might not be there. Today, they have Dallas Keuchel throwing for them. He has been one of the worst pitchers for the White Sox this year, and I don’t think he is usable as a starter in the playoffs. Day and away starts have been very bad for him so far, and today is an away game at 1:15 ET. The Sox have lost nine of his last 11 starts. The Tigers have Matt Manning who also doesn’t provide a lot of confidence in a bettor either. However, he’s done enough damage control lately and the Tigers have won his last three starts and five of his last seven. I like the over 9.5 runs in this game (-114), but, both pitchers could be taken out fairly early before the score gets too high. I’m passing on it, but do lean over. The Tigers outright is my play, I think there is too much value on them at +124.

Oakland vs. Seattle

The Athletics still have an outside shot at the playoffs, as do the Mariners, surprisingly. So, these games are extremely important and might even have a playoff feel to them. Oakland is on a modest three-game winning streak, and the Mariners have won four of their last five games. Both teams are coming into this matchup hot, and they recently ended a series against each other where the Mariners swept Oakland in a four-game series. By the end of this series, I’d think that only one of these teams should have a chance at making the playoffs (a small one at that). Cole Irvin takes the mound for Oakland and he has been mashed by the Mariners this season. In four starts, he’s allowed 14 earned runs over 16.2 innings. Chris Flexen has had a decent season for the Mainers, and he has been better at home with a 3.09 ERA. Against the Athletics, Flexen has started four times and allowed nine runs in 25 innings. I like the Mariners to take this opener at home at -118. Mariners over 4 total runs is a nice bet as well.

I didn’t have an angle on every game, but here is my “just for fun” parlay of all the winners of the five games:
