Another week begins and we have a short slate for MLB today. There is one afternoon game going on with the Twins currently beating the Yankees. Let’s see if we can find some other money-making upsets!

Rays vs. Blue Jays

The Rays are almost back to leading the AL East thanks to a nice tumble from the aforementioned Yankees. Tonight, they have reliever/opener Collin McHugh going for them and he has positioned them to be in great shape in just about every game he started for the Rays. Although he hasn’t started against the Blue Jays, he’s had seven innings, allowing five hits and one earned run. The five hits are a bit concerning to me, but I think this gets turned over to the bullpen quickly. For the Blue Jays, they have Alek Manoah on the mound. He’s pitched very well at home, posting a sub-three ERA. However, he has been worse as a night starter with an ERA near four. In two starts, over 10.2 innings, he’s been very successful against the Rays – just allowing two earned runs. He has been good, but not great lately. I’m taking the Rays to win this on the moneyline at +116.

Cardinals vs. Mets

It seems as though ever since Javy Baez came to the Mets he’s done nothing but strikeout and be at the center of controversy. Maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration, but the Mets still need to take care of business in order to make it to the playoffs and make the Baez addition completely worthwhile. Rich Hill starts for the Mets and he has a 4.22 home ERA. Additionally, the Cardinals are hitting nearly 20 points better against lefties than they are against right-handed pitching. Adam Wainwright is also worse on the road than he is at home, but overall he has a 2.98 ERA. In his one start against the Mets, he allowed five earned runs in 5.2 innings. However, in the 14 starts since that Mets start, he has allowed four runs or more only twice. Play the Cardinals to win at -108.

Red Sox vs. Mariners

Eduardo Rodriguez gives you a lot of anxiety as a bettor. He has a lot of talent, but that doesn’t really translate to the field and he has games where he just gives up a lot of runs. Tonight does not feel like one of those games. In his only start against the Mariners this season, he gave up three earned runs in seven innings. Logan Gilbert throws for the M’s tonight and he has never seen the Red Sox before. I think that bodes well for him at least the first time through the lineup. He has had a couple of promising starts in a row. His recent pitching performance, coupled with the Red Sox inconsistent lineup makes me think this is under 8 run game at -120.
