MLB Best Bets for Friday, June 25th

Yesterday on the diamond we went 1-2. One was a big swing and a miss. The other was a game where we took the Red Sox, who had a no-hitter until the ninth and lost 1-0. It hurts, but I’ll take it. Here are another three of MLB’s Best Bets.

Rockies vs. Brewers

Corbin Burnes was dominant to start the season. However, that dominance has since disappeared, and he has given up four or more runs in three of his last five starts. He faced the Rockies last week. It was a respectable enough outing, but he still gave up four runs. Jon Gray goes for the Rockies today and brings a 6.75 ERA on away games. He’s going to give up runs -- he hasn’t had a game all season where he hasn’t. I’m looking at the Brewers to win the game, but I think the total is going too low. I’m going to take the Brewers to win and the game to go over 7.5 runs at +160.

Diamondbacks vs. Padres

The money is headed to the under on this game. Tonight’s total is 8.5, and the Padres have gone under in four of their last five games. The Diamondbacks have gone under in three of their last five. However, the two pitchers in the game tonight give me very little reason to believe that we will get an under. Corbin Martin for the Diamondbacks has an 8.62 ERA and hasn’t made it out of the fourth inning in his last two starts. In games he has started, the totals have been 17, 17, 8, and 10 runs. Chris Paddack has an ERA of 4.10, but the Diamondbacks are hitting .167 against him. Still, the runs scored in the last eight games he’s pitched have been 10, 10, 8, 9, 3, 17, 16, and 12. I’m going to take the over on this one.

Braves vs. Reds

The Reds are struggling with lefties this year, batting 30 points less. The Reds are hitting .224 against lefties this season and are facing another one tonight. Drew Smyly goes tonight for the Braves, and the Reds have a .140 average against him (6 for 28). This isn’t a big sample, and one of their best hitters, Nick Castellanos, has four of those hits. On the other side, Vladimir Gutierrez goes for the Reds. He has been more than hittable. I’m taking the Braves to win this game outright. Currently listed at +102 on the moneyline.
