Mike Golic to Work as College Football Analyst, Future Still Unknown

Mike Golic's 23-year run on ESPN Radio comes to end later this month. With an expiring contract at the end of the year, and the network in cost-cutting mode, Golic faces an unknown future. For now, though, he will transition to a college football role at ESPN.

"I have a contract until the end of the year and I didn't want to sit around and do nothing," Golic said this morning on Golic & Wingo. "I approached ESPN and said, 'Can I go back and do, I'll do college games.'"

Golic covered college games from 1995-2005, his first 10 years with the company.

Golic added that he hopes to continue this new role, which includes appearances on SportsCenter and College Football Live, beyond the upcoming season. But that is up-in-air pending his future with ESPN.

ESPN’s decision to remove Golic from radio has been met with criticism. Golic & Wingo will be replaced by Keyshawn, Jay, and Zubin, a show industry sources look at as having low potential.

It is a foolish decision to move Golic off morning radio, where he wanted to remain. He's a likable, relatable personality whose Q-rating is equitable to the subjects of his show.

ESPN had hoped to improve its radio lineup with the overhaul; it downgraded.

Golic would be a high-level addition to a rival's radio network. Particularly, for SiriusXM or Westwood One.
