Jon Stewart is All In on Coronavirus Lab Leak Theory

"What would Jon Stewart say?" That's the question Americans have repeatedly asked themselves since 2015, the year The Daily Show crumbled to the trash with a new host, who shall remain nameless.

One of those questions has now been answered. On Monday, Stewart returned to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to push the theory that the coronavirus came from a lab in Wuhan, China.

Stewart is all-in. Enjoy:



"I think we owe a great debt of gratitude to science because science has, in many ways, helped ease the suffering of this pandemic, which was more than likely caused by science."

I mean, dagger.

Colbert pushed back some, saying there's only a "chance" that the virus originated from a Wuhan lab. Stewart wasn't playing it:

"A chance?!" Stewart responded. "Oh my God, there’s a novel respiratory coronavirus overtaking Wuhan, China, what do we do? Oh, you know, who we could ask, the Wuhan novel respiratory coronavirus lab. The disease is the same name as the lab! That’s just a little too weird, don’t you think?

"‘Oh my God, there’s been an outbreak of chocolaty goodness near Hershey, Penn. What do you think happened?’ I don’t know, maybe a steam shovel mated with a cocoa bean, Or it’s the f---ing chocolate factory. Maybe that’s it."

Yes! As I keep saying, coincidences are rare. They are excuses to shoo unwanted, unanswered questions away. The theory that the pandemic began when the virus escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology is just that, a series of coincidences experts told us to dismiss. I don't believe in coincidences.
