Hockey Reporter Says Player Is Only Good Because Parents Had Money - What?

A hockey reporter is getting absolutely rocked on social media after claiming that the only reason Edmonton Oilers left-winger Zach Hyman is good at hockey is because his parents had money.

Ah, yes. Another exhausted argument by the "woe is me" crowd that looks to demonize anyone  that is successful. And God forbid if they are a white, male - and even Jewish in Hyman's case!

In a video posted to social media, Andrew Berkshire spent over 8 minutes blasting the media for not constantly mentioning that Hyman comes from wealth and thus had privileges that other people didn't have growing up. Berkshire's illogical rant came after Hyman scored his 51st goal last night - making him one of just a hundred or so players to ever do so.

DEMANDS MEDIA MENTION PARENTS MORE

Apparently, mommy and daddy are the ones still lacing up the 31-year-old Hyman's skates and allowing him to be one of the league's more dominant players. At least, in Berkshire's warped mind.

"The story being told all across social media is that if you work hard, you stick to it, you can get there, too. A 31-year-old guy finally hit the 50 goal mark, a hard worker, all that," Bekshire began before then blaming Hyman for being apparently entitled because his parents had money.

"Zach Hyman grew up insanely rich. His parents bought him and an entire league to get him playing time. He did exclusive training that only a rich person could afford. His whole life is a person that has had every single possible advantage to get where they are today," Berkshire said.

… And your point?

"It's not just about working hard - and this isn't about just hockey or sports [it's bigger than that]." "There are people that worked as hard as Zach Hyman their whole entire life [and never made it]," Berkshire continues.

Yeah, buddy - it's called life. Have you taken a look around at any aspects of life - be it political, movies, music, sports, broadcasting, whatever? There's plenty of smarter and more talented people that never made it for a number of reasons - many of them having to deal with just straight-up being at the right place or the right time and definitely some luck involved as well. Hell, just look at who the Democrats have running for President again - a guy who is sometimes so out of it, it's like he played hockey without a helmet on for years.

SPORTS IS THE ONLY MERITOCRACY LEFT!

Yes, hockey is a more ‘privileged' sport in that it's more expensive to play based on the sheer cost of equipment, ice time and more. Once again - so what? Maybe I'd be a good horseback rider. I'll never know because I've never ridden a damn horse in my life because, unlike some of my classmates, I wasn't as financially fortunate as to afford one.

But you know what I didn't do? I didn't go online and moan and complain like Berkshire did and scream about how the "system is broken!" and "woe is me!"

If anything, sports is the ONLY meritocracy left. There are no nepo babies here and if they are, they are rooted out quickly. Sure, daddy being a coach will get you on a team in high school - but this is the big leagues and a team owner investing hundreds of millions of dollars doesn't care who someones father is.

Sports are the only thing left that allows anyone of any color, size, race or color to succeed if they have an amazing talent.

Just ask someone like Muggsy Bogues or the NFL player that was the 6th round draft pick in the 2000 draft - I believe he goes by Tom Brady.

Zach Hyman has nothing to be ashamed of. Rather, Andrew Berkshire should be ashamed for his awful take.
