Mark Sanchez Gives His Advice To Likely Jets Pick Zach Wilson

Former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson is preparing to play in New York and part of his efforts include reaching out to former signal-callers for the Jets.

Yahoo Sports reports Wilson spoke with the last quarterback to lead the Jets to the playoffs, Mark Sanchez.

Sanchez discussed what he talked about with Wilson during his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.

“My thing to Zach was, when you get into this market, most importantly, it’s not about ‘Do GQ or don’t do GQ’ your rookie season,” Sanchez said. “Understand who you are and what you want to portray yourself to be and understand what comes with all these decisions you’re going to make in the media space. Because it’s an unforgiving media. It’s a difficult market.”

Sanchez said he told Wilson to prepare to be under a microscope, and Yahoo Sports reports Sanchez was able to communicate both the positives and negatives based on his experiences.

“You just have to be careful of what you say or don’t say,” Sanchez said. “And at the end of the day, you’ve got to understand that no matter what you do, whether it’s GQ, whether it’s Home & Gardening magazine, either way you’re going to get criticized from people who disagree with what you did.”

  1. Sanchez could have been a decent, game managing QB, but the Jets destroyed him through their usual incompetence. Build a good OL with good RB’s? Nah we’ll spend all our capital on down the field receivers and move from a ball control offense to an air it out one! His best advice would have been- “know what your skillset is and advocate for the coaches and team to draft and build a team around that skillset”a
