Mariah Carey Sings Derek Jeter's Praises, Says Time With 'Captain' Was A Dream

The world already knew Derek Jeter treated ladies with respect, even going as far as reportedly gifting one-night stands with prize packs featuring autographed items. Now comes the new Mariah Carey memoir “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” where the legendary singer says her brief period as Jeter's girlfriend was "a short and sweet dream."

In her new book, Carey, 50, says Jeter, 46, had big plans for her when he got to New York in 1995. By 1997 he was dating Carey.

“‘I had this plan,’ he told me. ‘I was going to come to New York. I was going to get on the Yankees. I was going to meet you, and I was going to steal you away from Tony Sony – his name for Tommy (Mottola, Carey’s first husband) – ‘and then we were going to get married.’”

Carey even goes as far as belting out how great Jeets, her second partner, was in the sack.

“It was so sensual,” Carey writes of their time together, according to Page Six. “Everything was so new and sweet, down to the smooth texture of his honey-dropped skin … It was so heady, so intoxicating, and I was so vulnerable. I was in touch with a fire I didn’t know I had inside.”

Carey would go on to write the 1997 song "The Roof" as a tribute to a kiss she and Jeter had on top of his apartment building. Another song dedicated to the Yankees captain was "My All" where Carey utters “I’d risk my life to feel, your body next to mine.”

Jeter must smile when he's driving through Miami and "The Roof" comes on Sirius/XM.

Every time I feel the need
I envision you caressing me
And go back in time
To relieve the splendor of you and I
On the rooftop that rainy night

And so we finished the Moet and
Started feeling liberated
And I surrendered as you took me
In your arms
I was so caught up in the moment
I couldn't bear to let you go yet
So I threw caution to the wind
And started listening to my longing heart
And then you softly pressed your lips to mine
And feelings surfaced I'd suppressed
For such a long time
And for a while I forgot
The sorrow and the pain
And melted with you as we stood
There in the rain

Jeter eventually had to move on from Mariah and had relationships with Minka Kelly, Adriana Lima and Jessica Alba, before marrying Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Hannah Davis.

“Though our relationship was just a moment in my time line, Derek served a very high purpose in my life,” Carey wrote in the memoir according to Hollywood Life.
