Back-to-back Super Bowl appearances are nice, but there’s apparently more to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes than big wins on the football field.
“I am trying to build an empire off the field in every way,” Mahomes, 25, told Yahoo Finance Presents. “I watch a lot of the great athletes that came before me, and they found ways to build their empire and to build themselves up off the field. So I am trying to do that as much as possible.”
Mahomes cited Michael Jordan and Alex Rodriguez as former athletes who have built businesses outside of sports, and he respects them because of it. He also mentioned Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
Mahomes indicated he has learned from his failures in the financial world, just as he does on the football field.
“The biggest thing is to do the stuff you love and you have a passion for because if you do that, you usually figure out a way to make it work,” he said. “That has been big to me, not to just invest in everything but to invest in stuff that you truly believe in.”
There’s also the matter of stocks, something Mahomes said he leaves to his financial advisors.
“I do a little bit [of dabbling in stocks], but I usually have a financial advisor that kind of steers me in the right direction that way,” Mahomes said. “I’m pretty conservative. I would say so myself, but as I have learned more and more, I try to do a little bit more.”
Stick to football. You’re great at it.

MJ and A-Rod did their mogul stage after their careers. During their careers, they were shills. He needs to worry about improving as a QB so that one day, a few years from now, he can finally take out Tom Brady.

First, we woman think his haircut and his little goatee are absolutely adorable. He is so stinkin’ cute.
Second, I’m pretty sure that Patrick is 100% committed to being the best QB possible, so he really, probably, almost likely, doesn’t need your advice to focus on his day job.
Third, that crazy blonde has been his girlfriend and best friend since high school. How many jocks do you know that stay true to one girl for that many years, and at that young an age? I’d call that pretty damned classy. Instead of going for eye candy, he has a real relationship with a woman he loves.
