Look at All These People Who Had Penn Beating Kansas

Why do we always do this? It's the same blueprint every year. Each Selection Sunday, once the NCAA Tournament brackets are released, we all ask the same collective question:  Is this the first year that a 16-seed beats a 1-seed?? Then, a few people pick one 16-seed who is the official team that could be that 16-seed. After that, social media and the internet run with that team and an explosion of predictions and declarations that the 16-seed will win ensues.  "You heard it here first," they say.

This year, the  "Chosen One" was Penn.  The 16-seed Quakers were matched up with 1-seed Kansas in the first round, and, like clockwork, Penn became "that team."  But like every other year  since 1987, it wasn't meant to be.  Kansas beat Penn today 76-60 in Wichita, and the Quakers became the most recent disappointment in the desperate hope that 16-seed will eventually experience tournament victory.

Even though they lost, the Ivy League Champs put forth a pretty valiant effort and made KU fans sweat it out for a bit. The Quakers were up eight points on the Jayhawks with under seven minutes left in the first half, before Kansas went on a 22-5 run to end the half. After that, the Jayhawks never relinquished the lead. Here is a small glimpse of the excitement went Penn was looking good...

Here's a sampling of people who thought, before the tournament began that Penn had a chance to, or would, win.
