Layoffs Hit The Athletic

The sports media industry has had a rough several years, and the coronavirus pandemic has compounded matters. Today, as first reported by Axios, The Athletic is laying off 46 employees, or 8 percent of its staff. The New York Post reported further details on pay cuts for those who remain. This is the second wave of cost cuts at The Athletic -- when the pandemic initially hit, they announced that they were freezing freelance contributors.
