Did you notice what Phil Mickelson was up to Thursday?
Phil went 6-under 64 Thursday at the Travelers Championship and is tied for 5th heading into today’s round. I know you guys know this, but it would be a pretty remarkable achievement if Phil could go low all weekend and win. Since 1975, only three players have won PGA Tour events after their 50th birthday. Mickelson is eligible to play on the Champions Tour, but right now he’s about as interested in doing that as he would be participating in an oral history of his choke job in that ’06 U.S. Open at Winged Foot.
Those three winners: Craig Stadler won in 2003 at age 50, Fred Funk won in 2007 at age 50, and Davis Love III won in 2015 at age 51.
