Kyrie Irving Pays Off Tuition For Nine Students From HBCU Lincoln University

I’ve been critical of the way Kyrie Irving continues to handle the media, but I’ll give him his flowers when he does something right. Today, Irving paid off college tuition for nine students at HBCU Lincoln University.

Love or hate him, this was a bright spot for the six-time All-Star.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania, this was part of Irving’s 11 days of giving in December. It’s also not the first time Kyrie donated to his community. He’s given $323,000 to Feeding America, $200,000 to Lineage Logistics for COVID relief, and donated 250,000 meals in the New York area.

There’s plenty to criticize about the strange bird that is Kyrie Irving, but we can’t refute his heart for the less fortunate. Here at OutKick, we think that players should donate to causes they believe in, rather than preach about them on Twitter.

Irving clearly aligns with our message, providing resources to causes he cares about, instead of asking us to do the heavy lifting. Good on you, Kyrie.

  1. Good for Kyrie. Very happy to hear this.

Though this story confuses me. There’s a HBCU named after a president that did not demonstrate black lives mattered to him? Somebody might want to point that out to a group of people in San Francisco to help correct this error.

  2. I’m not a fan of players like Kyrie and LeBron, but I will always give kudos for helping out the less fortunate or those who could definitely use the help. This is a great gesture and from the heart, not for a photo-op. Good on you Kyrie. I hope it doesn’t end up going all for naught, but it could if Biden sides with the Progressive Left(aka, the Squad and Bernie), that want to delete student debt. If that happens, make the Government pay you back!
