Kyler Murray May Influence Cardinals’ Draft Choices

Videos by OutKick

Does Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray have any influence when it comes to who the team might draft?

“I don’t know why I wouldn’t,” Murray said on the NFL Network.

The man actually makes a valid point. Thanks in large part to Murray, the Cardinals have become relevant again — something that hasn’t happened for, oh, about a decade.

So why not give him a say in things?

“If you’ve got a guy at quarterback, you trust him and you want him to be the face of the franchise for a lot of years. I think he should have an influence,” Murray said. “Everything is technically built around the quarterback. I think I have that relationship with (GH Steve Keim) and Kliff (Kingsbury). I’m excited to see what we do on Thursday.”

The Cardinals are armed with the No. 16 overall pick. Quarterbacks love having quality wide receivers, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Murray suggested his team select one of those. But he added that he may suggest taking a defensive player.

Either way, perhaps Murray is working on carving out a future career for himself. After all, some of the best NFL general managers are former players. For Murray, it can’t hurt to get a head start.

  1. Hey Sam,
We’ll see what shakes out this year, but last year Kyler asked the Cards brain thrust to take Cee Dee Lamb – 6’2″ WR outta Oklahoma with their first pick. Instead, Arizona picked Isaiah Simmons, LB outta Clemson.
Woulda been nice for Cards fans to see Lamb and Hopkins really open up the secondary, but whatever (I’m not a Cards fan).
So Lamb went to the Cowboys, started 14 games (played in all 16) and had 74 catches for 935 and 5 TDs and a 12.6 yds/reception. Not too shabby! Simmons started 7 games (played in all 16) and is a good one. He’s gonna get better with more playing time, so not a bad choice.
