John Petty Jr. 3-Point Mark As Alabama Resembles Title Contender In Hoops, Too

Alabama has a new 3-point king, and in a day when making shots from the perimeter is all the rage, that means a lot.

So all hail to Alabama sharpshooter John Petty Jr., who is now the school's all-time leader in made 3-pointers, burying his 264th in Saturday's win over Arkansas to set the new mark.

Petty is a 6-foot-3 senior guard and finished with 17points, as the Crimson Tide rolled to 6-0 in SEC play with a 90-59 hammer job of a victory. He is averaging 13.3 points on the season. He also made one more three after breaking the record, so it's now at 265 and counting.

For Petty and Alabama, it was a banner day and yet another performance that makes you think the Crimson Tide may be more than football champs. They may have a shot in March, as well.

"It means a lot to me," Petty told reporters. "But it's also going to be fun to celebrate with my teammates because without them I wouldn't be in this position. Without getting great shots from them, without them doing their thing — attracting people then kicking it out to me — so just as much as it is on me it's on them as well."
