Joe Torre's Selling His New York House With A Massive Tax Bill

Are you looking to spend a fortune in taxes to live 20 miles north of Yankee Stadium? Legendary baseball man Joe Torre's house in Harrison, New York hit the market Friday with an asking price of $2.138 million, according to property listings. The monthly tax bill: $4,607.

Torre, 81, appears to have left town as the 3,822 sq. ft. home is practically empty and ready for a new family who's ready to blow through a fortune on taxes. That's right -- over $55,000 a year in taxes to be within quick striking distance of Yankees games.

From Joe Torre's realtor:

Enjoy the splendors of each season as you are surrounded by nature in this magnificent home in an idyllic setting with a beautiful pond in Sterling Ridge! This home features an open floor plan that provides beautiful views of this "park-like" property! The foyer leads to the light-filled living room with fireplace and access to terraces is a perfect place to enjoy breakfast or dinner to the gentle sound of a trickling waterfall leading down to the shimmering pond which is totally gated.

Torre, who purchased this house for $1 million in 1997 a year after winning the World Series in his first year as Yankees skipper, has this place pretty much move-in ready, minus the one purple room that's clearly in need of a fresh coat of paint.

The big news here has to be the grounds. The thick turf. The mature bushes. The quality work performed by his grounds crew. Imagine playing catch with your son in this yard (while trying to forget that tax bill). Imagine the pop of the mitt as Junior hits 90 on the gun for the first time as the wife and her country club girlfriends suck down spiked lemonades on the veranda (while trying to forget how much you pay in taxes).

It could all be yours.

• Starbucks: 2 miles down the road

• Whole Foods: 3 miles

• Liquor store: 2.2 miles

• LGA: 23.8 miles

Mortgage: $11,300 or so before you start hiring a mowing service to maintain the 1.27 acre property with luscious turf.
