Joe Namath Has Favorable Comparison For Mac Jones

Game recognizes game, right?

Mac Jones is in the mix to be a top-3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. That doesn't mean he'll go in the top 3, but even being considered speaks volumes to his talent and potential in the NFL.

After a wildly successful season at Alabama, Jones recently received praise from another former Crimson Tide star signal caller. On Monday, legendary quarterback Joe Namath joined the crew on NFL Network's NFL Now. That's where he made an interesting comparison for Jones.

Namath believes the 2020 Heisman finalist shows some similarities to Tom Brady.

“The Alabama quarterback reminds me a bit of a guy who came out of college and won seven Super Bowls,” Namath said. “You know who I’m talking about. There’s a little comparison there with the movement and all. In today’s game, people are in love with cats who can move a lot, and that’s good. But what’s between the ears? How will a guy adjust and go from here to there? Tom Brady is not fleeing by foot. Jones is not fleeing by foot, but he might be the best player of the bench.”

So does Namath believe Jones will be the next Brady? Well ...

“I see a possibility. Tom Brady is one of a kind, right? But I do see Jones as comparable to Brady when he was coming out of college, maybe even ahead of Brady when he was coming out of Michigan.”

The response makes sense. Jones is virtually a first-round lock, while Brady barely went in the top 200. So coming out of college, it's obvious that the Alabama quarterback is ahead of where Brady was coming out of Michigan.

It's what Brady did after getting to the NFL that made all the difference for his career. That's how he became the seven-time Super Bowl champion we see today. It remains to be seen whether Jones will succeed like Brady has, but the physical traits are similar.

Now we'll get to see how the mental traits compare.
