Jeremy Lin says he was called “coronavirus” on the basketball court, but he would not name the person responsible. NBC now says the NBA G League has identified the man who said it.
“We’re handling this matter internally, a decision supported by Jeremy Lin. Lin has met with the player to discuss the escalating racism and violence toward Asian Americans, and the player understands the impact that hearing his comment had on Lin,” a league spokesperson said in a statement to NBC Asian America.
So, this means we still don’t know who is calling people “coronavirus” on the court. The media is working hard to disclose the player’s identity though.
If it happened to be a white guy, this could get ugly. That player would then have to apologize for life, find a new job, delete Twitter, and suffer through a nasty New York Times piece written about them. If it was a black player, well, just move on.
NBA’s findings based on race of perpetrator. White guy: banned for life. Black guy: it’s just a little trash talk, people are overreacting.

Last year, it was “bitch ass white boy.” This year, it’s “coronavirus.” All of it is unnecessary, in my opinion.
Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion, but I think it’s pretty funny trash talk. Guess the tone and personal history would need to be considered. Better than whining about it, Lin should’ve had some fun with it. Just my opinion, though.
I’m also the guy that thinks Luka should’ve owned Harrell’s dis, abbreviated it to BAWB, and made tshirts. BAWB Donkic or Luka BAWB would be gangster plus gives Harrell the middle finger. 🤷♂️
Lin went to Harvard….
I am with you. I grew up playing basketball when I was often times the one or one of two white kids playing. I was called every racist term for white people one can imagine. It motivated me to laugh and drain jumpers in someone’s mouth. I have played basketball, soccer, baseball, ran track and a little football for good measure, if I had a nickel for every time I was called “fag” I would have $1M more in my 401(k). Use these dumb ass insults as motivation to stick in the other dudes face. Done.
Hey Bobby,
Looks like we’re just moving on, no?
Man Lin sounds like a real pussy boy very soft I mean coronavirus really should have just ignored I mean come on man
We know the race of the perp. The fact it hasn’t gone out after this length of time (plus NBA demographics)…tells you.
A couple of you guys are more tolerant than I am. If I was called a honkey, cracker, bitch ass white boy back in the day, I’d be fighting. Even today, at my age, I’d be at the very least throwing racial stuff back at them.
Me too
Not about tolerance its about being smart. The only reason people talk shit is to other good players. No one talks shit to the bad players. Who cares what some dumb ass says? If I had to throw hands every time some asshole called me a name I would have been fighting all the time.
Whenever I was/am “dissed” I ignored it or answered with simply, “I have been called worse by better”!
Why the hell does anyone worry about on court trash talk?
Per the FBI’s most recent data (from 2019), Asians are approximately 2 times more likely to be the victim of a hate-crime perpetrated by a black than a white.
95 whites committed a hate crime against Asians, and blacks committed 30. 85-90% of hate crimes are committed by those age 18-64.
Per the Census, there are 170 million whites aged 18-64, and 25 million blacks; that’s 7 times more whites than blacks in 18-64 bracket.
95 divided by 30 is 3.2; 7 divided by 3.2 is slightly over 2.
So, accounting for a margin of error, blacks are around 2 times more likely to commit a hate crime against Asians than are whites.
One out of every 833K blacks committed an anti-Asian hate crime (25 million divided by 30); however, one out of every 1.79 million whites committed the same (170 million divided by 95).
Never hearing about this:
Black privilege—yes or no?
