This has happened a number of times in the past, but it’s always kinda jarring when the geniuses on Jeopardy don’t know the answers to a bunch of easy questions about sports. That happened last night, with a category on the Yankees:
We didn't expect this category about the Bronx Bombers to bomb so hard. Oh well! @Yankees pic.twitter.com/i55Cpmj0l5
— Jeopardy! (@Jeopardy) October 2, 2020
After getting a lay-up question about Babe Ruth correct, the contestants bombed on:
- All-rise and a 6’7 Yankee referring to Aaron Judge
- Frank Gifford playing for the Giants
- An obvious Mickey Mantle question
- Yogi Berra being 60′ 6″ away from Don Larsen in Monument Park
I didn’t watch the show yesterday, but I think I can say with a high degree of confidence I would’ve cleaned up in this category and those contestants would’ve mopped the floor with me on everything else.
When the NFL decided to add a review for PI penalties, I screamed from the rooftops that nerds ruin sports. This just confirms that theory. Big ups to Alex Trebek though! Keep it pushing! Our prayers are with you!
