Jeff Garcia Has Had It Up to Here With Cam Newton

Sometimes you need a good old fashioned sports rant to get the day going. The 49ers shellacked the Patriots yesterday, and Cam Newton got benched for Jarrett Stidham in the second half. Former 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area’s postgame studio team and absolutely lit into Cam Newton. Garcia criticized Newton for shamelessly promoting his personal wardrobe during a time when he has struggled tremendously on the field:

The 49ers beat the Patriots 33-6. Newton was 9-15 passing for 95 yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions.

This tirade from Garcia is an early candidate for football rant of the year. Can anything surpass it in the NFL’s second half?

  1. Cam was never a great QB. He was an extremely athletic and well-built athlete, who played the QB position. But even in his prime he was not a great thrower, and his head has never been fully in the game. Once his athleticism began to decline, there was nothing else there. Simply put, his athelticism and physique precluded him from having to learn to be a QB.
