Jared Goff: Los Angeles Return 'Just Another Game'

Jared Goff's return to Los Angeles this Sunday has all the makings of a real-life soap opera. A spicy relationship with a former ally (Rams coach Sean McVay), reunions with teammates of years past, and a suddenly bumpy partnership with the new companion (Lions coach Dan Campbell). Yet, Goff views the pending drama as "just another game."

After the Rams drafted him first overall in 2016, Goff spent five seasons in LA before being traded to Detroit this past offseason. His Lions tenure has started with more whisper than roar. Detroit is 0-6 and Goff has thrown for just 1,505 yards, leaving his job status as a starter in question.

“I feel like he needs to step up more than he has,” Dan Campbell told the media after Detroit's most recent loss.

Now, Goff returns to Los Angeles with waning support from his head coach and all the expected hype that surrounds a reunion with his former NFL home.

“It’s another game,” Goff told the Detroit media. “Again, the easy answer — the reality is that we need a win, regardless of who we’re playing this week. ...It’s more of the reality is that we need to win and we can’t focus on (my return to LA), really.”

Goff did admit that he has less than glowing feelings for the Rams organization that kicked him to the curb, though he won't let those feelings affect his mindset or his play:

"When the game starts, if I let any of that come into how I’m going to play the game, it would be selfish. And I’m going to play the game just how I would any other game. And to be honest, I’m not worried about feeling some type of way once the game starts. I really don’t.”
