Jaguars Dump Front Office Assistant John Idzik After Six Seasons

Urban Meyer’s impact with his new team in Jacksonville is quickly taking shape, as reports are the team is dumping John Idzik, who was serving as special assistant to the general manager under Dave Caldwell.

Idzik dealt with a lot of player contracts over the last six seasons, but evidently that was not enough for him to be valuable enough to keep around.

Getting rid of a guy like Idzik is not a shock considering that the franchise is putting all of its chips is Meyer’s basket, and they are going to do whatever they want to keep him happy.

The team spent little time changing around the front office, as the club fired Caldwell back on November 29th, prior to the official hiring of Meyer.

Caldwell had been with the Jaguars as the GM for eight seasons, and in that time Jacksonville won just 37 games.

Idzik came to the Jaguars after spending time with the New York Jets as their general manager.

Look for Meyer to do a majority of the hiring, bringing in his guys and making sure that he has who he wants both in the front office as well as on the coaching staff.

Meyer did make a hire on Monday, as he hired Anthony Schlegel, a former Ohio State linebacker who worked for Meyer and the Buckeyes as an assistant strength and conditioning coach.

He’s coming aboard in Jacksonville as the Jags new head strength and conditioning coach.

Now Meyer will have another position to fill after the team has shown Idzik the door.
