Isaiah Simmons Becomes Latest NFL Player To Make Single-Digit Number Switch

We all knew that once NFL allowed players more number flexibility, there was going to be chaos. So far, things have lived up to the expectation. We've seen many players switch numbers, including Cardinals second-year linebacker Isaiah Simmons.

Simmons, the team's first-round pick (No. 8 overall) in 2020, switched from No. 11 at Clemson to No. 48 during his rookie NFL season. As in most cases, it was odd to see the drastic change, but now Simmons is planning to make yet another number change.

On Tuesday, it was announced that he would be wearing No. 9 moving forward.

Good for him, but does anyone else find this weird? I've been a huge advocate for this rule change for as long as I can remember. I even tried to make the switch when I ran a Madden franchise back in 2004. But now that it's actually happening, it just feels weird.

Not that it's a bad thing because it isn't. I guess it's just new, and I will need some time to adjust to all the craziness. I really hope I'm not turning into the "get off my lawn" guy who will soon complain about unwritten rules in baseball, but I guess that remains to be seen.

Anyways, the Cardinals are all-in on the new rule which allows other position groups to wear single-digit numbers.

Five of the nine numbers have now been taken by players who wouldn't have been able to wear them even as recently as last year. I bet Reggie Bush is still fuming over the change finally happening.
