Hugh Freeze, Liberty Continue To Shock The World

The 2020 Liberty Flames are a force. Despite recently breaking the top 25, Hugh Freeze and company entered the weekend as 16.5-point underdogs to Virginia Tech. They will exit the weekend victors once again, moving to 7-0 on the year.

Liberty never trailed in the game. They scored on the very first drive and didn't look back. The final score was 38-35 against the Hokies, who now fall to 4-3 on the season.

Quarterback Malik Willis continues to be a major driving force behind the undefeated record. Against a stingy Virginia Tech defense, the Auburn transfer produced 325 total yards (217 passing, 108 rushing) and four total touchdowns. He completed 66.7 percent of his 30 pass attempts.

Freeze's record now moves to 15-5 since arriving at Liberty prior to the 2019 season. His program has seen steady improvement and he continues to prove that he is worth a second chance with another Power-Five program.

Will he get it? It's almost a certainty at this point. But where?

As we discussed earlier this season, it could be a number of places. If the conference would allow it, there is still the possibility that an Auburn or South Carolina could eventually make a move for the former Ole Miss head coach.

Who knows, he could even end up coaching the team he just beat on Saturday -- this is a joke, sort of.

But for now, Freeze and Liberty should enjoy this success. What that program has accomplished is nothing short of incredible.
