Houston Texans Longtime Team President Jamey Rootes Resigns

The Houston Texans have had an insane offseason already, and it's barely seven weeks old.

We've witnessed the drama of bringing in new general manager Nick Caserio from New England and hiring Ravens passing game coordinator David Culley as the new coach, but even those are not the biggest storyline in Houston these days.

That of course belongs to quarterback Deshaun Watson, who reportedly isn't speaking to the team at this point and wants out.

Watson's request for a departure to another NFL franchise shows the mess this team is in, and Wednesday there was another departure, this time from longtime team president Jamey Rootes.

Rootes' tenure with the Texans started when the franchise began back in 2002, and he's been a huge part of the success the team has had, despite the issues over the last year.

So why did Rootes decide to bail from Houston? The speculation is that executive vice president of football operations Jack Easterby has once again used his power inside the team to get what he wants, which is for Rootes to leave the franchise.

Houston has had a hard time getting solid NFL experienced names to join their franchise with all their off-the-field drama, and losing Rootes is not going to help matters, especially considering the length of his tenure and the respect that he has around the league.

It will be interesting to see if Houston can find a solid replacement for Rootes, or if it'll be another black eye for the Texans.
