Baton Rouge is no longer the only area of Louisiana seeking a college football coach. On Friday morning, Louisiana Tech followed LSU’s lead by parting ways with their head coach prior to the end of the regular season. Skip Holtz and the Bulldogs mutually agreed to go their separate ways following Tech’s final game of the season on Saturday versus Rice.
Louisiana Tech enters the weekend with a 3-8 record.

In a statement released by the school, athletic director Dr. Eric Wood announced the decision before thanking Holtz.
“Skip and I talked and agreed it was time for a change for both parties. Louisiana Tech owes Skip a debt of gratitude for his loyalty and dedication to our football student-athletes, our University, and our community over the past decade. He has been able to accomplish some things that weren’t previously done here on a consistent basis before his arrival.”
During his nine seasons in Ruston, Holtz complied a record of 64 wins and 49 losses and appeared in seven bowl games, winning six. After guiding LA Tech to a 9-5 record and a win in the Armed Forces Bowl in 2016, Holtz was named the Conference USA Coach of the Year.
Though he’ll no longer be pacing the Bulldogs’ sideline after Saturday, the 57-year-old Holtz has no plans to walk away from the game: “I am not done coaching football and have great passion and energy to continue to lead young men through this game that I love so much. It is just time for me to channel my energies elsewhere.”
Louisiana Tech is expected to begin a nationwide search for their next head coach immediately.
“We continue to be committed to winning conference championships, and that expectation is stronger than ever,” said Wood.
Holtz has a good chance of ending his Bulldogs tenure with a win, at least according to FanDuel Sportsbook. They list La Tech as 3.5 point road favorites versus the Owls.
