Hand-BRAWL! Ukrainian Handball Match Ends In Ugly Fashion As Fists Start Flying

Wednesday, I blogged about a Brazilian MMA match where a guy got knocked out three times before the ref stepped in and ended the fight. Fighters entering a cage in Brazil now have to be prepared to possibly die. Today we head halfway around the globe to Ukraine, where craziness breaks out at a ladies handball match. No one died, but a few probably left with a black eye.

"The bizarre incident occurred in the dying moments of the match between Dnepryanka from Khesron and Real from Nikolaev, when the hosts were leading 27-24," Russian news outlet RT.com reports.

"The brawl erupted after Dnepryanka’s Karolina Savchenko sprawled right in front of the opponent’s net.

"The hot-tempered athlete, who was visibly infuriated by the referee’s silence, decided to punish the alleged offender herself triggering a huge fist fight right on the court."

I'm telling you guys right now, there are a couple of women in this fight that I'd never tell to learn how to make a delicious sammich. There are a couple of Fran Stalinovskovichdavidovitchsky types in here that you clearly don't want to tangle with. Watch that ref get out of there. She doesn't get paid enough by the Ukrainian Handball Association to get beat up by the Frans on the court.

Back in 2019, I was doing some sports radio work and talking to a guy who told stories about guys who would go play in the Russian KHL. There were stories of how guys would be paid in cash before games, and they'd have no secure place to stash the money, so they would just tape stacks of money under their pads. The hockey guy I talked to that day said goalies were notorious for taping money to them rather than have it stolen out of the locker room while out on the ice.

Think about MMA in Brazil and handball in Ukraine. Trust no one. Prepare to die. Prepare for missiles to fly through buildings. Prepare to see people being offed in the stands. This isn't Des Moines, Iowa. Becoming an athlete in a foreign land means preparing at an early stage in life to survive wild times.

Dnepryanka survived the handball fight and won the match 30-28.
