Here’s our take for Sunday night’s epic AFC showdown:

Steelers ML +106

In sports betting, we don’t always bet the team. We bet the number. This line opened at Steelers +2.5 and has moved to +1.5. If we liked an underdog and it was still on the original line, we might recommend buying a half-point to +3 for extra cushion. That opportunity is gone.

So why take the Moneyline instead of the points?

Simply put, we like the Steelers to win outright regardless. Plus, it’s very infrequent an NFL game is decided by only one point, so the odds of the Steelers losing by that margin (and covering your bet by that outcome) are slim. Rather than give the book juice, why not make them pay us for winning?

The look-ahead line was Steelers -2.5 before games played last Monday. After the Steelers’ loss to Washington and the Bills’ big win over San Francisco, the line shifted a whopping three points the other direction.

That’s a giant swing. We call this an overreaction.

Yes, the Steelers are coming off an embarrassing loss to Washington last week – a game Pittsburgh choked away after going up, 14-0.  But they’ve still won 11 other games and are undefeated on the road. They have the 3rd ranked defense and one of the best receiving corps in the NFL. There’s some crazy narrative that Pittsburgh is the most overrated team in football. How? They’re 11-1.

It’s easy to expect this to be a close game. Buffalo is very much in the Super Bowl hunt. But we don’t need the Steelers to win by more than one point on Sunday night. Wave your “Terrible Towels” like crazy and take the Steelers.
