Get Ready, We’re About to be Overloaded With Sports

Big win yesterday for Patrick Mahomes. Big win for the NFL. Big win for capitalism. America gets better every single day, every single week, every single month.

To that end, sports are coming back very soon. Tomorrow, the MLS should be underway. By the end of the month, NBA and Major League Baseball are back.

Hockey is coming back. The NHL has reached an agreement on an extension of its CBA and they will be back as well.  I believe August 1 is the return date. They are playing in two different Canadian cities.

We are going to be overloaded with sports by late-July. I told you all these leagues were going to come back.

There have been a lot of people out there — pessimists — who said we would never have sports again until there is a vaccine.

I was right. The losers and the pessimists were wrong.

Welcome back sports!

  1. I, for one, am not really looking forward to “sports” returning. I get a sense it’ll be activism, lectures, and some sports thrown in. I hope I’m wrong.

  2. Clay,

I think the fear porn of ‘the explosion of cases’ (as opposed to deaths) will win out and it’s likely the sports that do restart are quickly shut back down.

No football in 2020. In the long run it might be better than dueling anthems and kneeling.

Whit is right, the lack of leadership (and outright stupidity) amongst all parties is simply hard to fathom.

  3. I listen to a DC sports show in the afternoonS using the iheart app. Chad Dukes vs the World on 106.7 the Fan in DC. He interviews a lot of national sports media folks daily And from different sports outlets and networks; and the idiots at the Washington Post CCP.

None of them seem to think we’ll have football, but think basketball will play and look reasonable. The media folks seem ok with a national shutdown. As long as the NBA gets in some social justice.

They don’t seem to want sports, except basketball. And maybe that first football game with two national anthems. Just for the spectacle of it.

Media seems to want more chaos and a Fan revolt. Not actual Sports.

I heard Andrew Brandt, the sports legal genius, promoting himself and his brand Tuesday in a 30 minute interview With Chad Dukes. It was like Chad and Drew were having two different conversations.
He didn’t offer one positive notion, but wants everyone to check out his column on the Mahomes contract.

Rats ? on a sinking ship?

  4. I am out on the NBA. It’s too political sorry not sorry. MLB maybe, hockey should be fun. MLS is pretty low quality when compared to European leagues. So yes we will be inundated with sports but not sure that more than one will catch my attention.

  5. I am out on the NBA. I was looking forward to getting a taste of Zion, and watching this year’s version of LeBron and his current “James Gang” ( odd that LeBron is okay using this term but is offended by the word “posse”). Love him or hate him, LeBron is great television. But, I think I can get away from politics in the MLB. Plus, I think the 60 game season will amp up the intensity of the regular season closer to playoff intensity. Time for some dingers.
