The Freezing Cold Take Report

It’s that time of the week again. Every Wednesday, I post this comprehensive guide highlighting some of the notable unprophetic and wrong predictions and other observations that are relevant to the previous week’s sports news. Let’s begin.

BEST OF THE WEEK

VILLANOVA DOMINATES THE FINAL FOUR

This past week during the Final Four, Villanova destroyed Kansas and Michigan to win Nova's third National Championship.  Since the Wildcats were big favorites to win both games, there weren't very many people to roast after they won. However, there were some...

Colin Cowherd REALLY liked Michigan with the 6.5 points:

How about this bozo?

NFL DRAFT CLASSICS

With the NFL Draft coming up at the end of the month, it's a great time to start including some of my favorite old draft takes in my Freezing Cold Take Report.

Here's more from Lisk, about the article:

CUBS REPORTER JUMPS IN LAKE

MLB Opening Day kicked off Thursday.  Just prior to the Chicago Cubs opener against the Marlins in Miami, Michael Cerami, a Cubs Reporter for the MLBs Bleacher Nation, tweeted this:

What happened?  Happ went yard on the very first pitch of the game.  This put Cermani a tough spot.  Just an hour later, the reporter proved that he was a man of his word.

Respect.

OVERRATED BRYCE HARPER HITS HOME RUN

Funny sequence from Sunday's Reds/Nationals game in Cincinnati.  During Bryce Harper's at bat for the Nationals in the top of the 9th inning, you can clearly hear a fan from the crowd yell out "overrated!" as the Reds' pitcher is readying to throw a 2-2 pitch.  Immediately after, Harper blasted opposite field home run. How about that for a "life comes at you fast" moment?

TAKE-AVERSARIES

On April 4, 1983, massive underdog North Carolina State University, coached by the late Jim Valvano, shocked the world by defeating the Houston Cougars in the college basketball National Championship game. The Cougars team was led by future NBA Hall of Famers Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler.  The clip of Valvano running around the floor after the Wolfpack's game winning dunk is ubiquitous during March and will forever be celebrated as one of College Basketball's most iconic moments.

Before the game, Houston, who had a 31-2 overall record, was considered to be such a powerhouse, that there was an article on the morning of the game questioning whether they were as good as the NBA's Houston Rockets, who were, at the time, the one of the worst teams in the NBA. From the Binghamton (NY) Evening Press:

Nowadays, we see these types of hypotheticals all the time.  If you thought they were something that was created in the social media era, guess again.  Ironically, the discussion turned out to be moot, as the  Cougars weren't able to even beat NC State.

Below are a few examples of some college teams who didn't win a national championship but were thought by some to be better than a pro team.

In 2015, there were many people who believed that Kentucky, who went undefeated in the regular season, could beat some NBA teams.

Kentucky ended up losing it's only game of the season to Wisconsin in the Final Four.

Also, who can forget the 2016 Alabama Crimson Tide football team, who many thought could beat the Browns before they lost to Clemson in the National Championship game.

VAULT IT

That's it for this week.
